Charles City County Virginia Courthouse (1750’s)

The case was probably filed in this courthouse, now on the Register of Historic Places.

They tried to gain their freedom under the 1662 Virginia law that dictated that the children of freeborn Indian women could not be enslaved (Partus sequitur ventrem).
